Wedding dress ideas for a casual wedding

If thousands of guests, truckloads of flowers, and miles of silk or satin has never been your idea of the perfect wedding, maybe a more casual theme is better style. A wedding can still be a big celebration and beautiful event without having to stick to rigid rules or formality.

Toning down the decorations and chucking out the tuxedo’s is a good start to planning a laid-back affair. But there can be some issues with the casual theme when it comes time to choose a wedding dress.

Unless it’s your one true dream, it’s probably best to avoid garments like cut-off jeans or baggy sweat pants for the bridal ensemble. Casual doesn’t have to mean sloppy or lazy, it can still be breathtaking and stunning. Don’t cheat yourself of that bridal glory just because the tone is relaxed.

Linen and cotton are the two best materials to choose from, since they can easily be relaxed while still holding some stunning style. They’re also two materials that many garments are made from, thus making it easier to search for that perfect bridal outfit.

Quality, white, cotton or linen slip dresses can add that feminine flare while holding a bit of a casual appeal. A simple spaghetti strap top and slightly open back looks breezy and easy, yet finished and classic. Best of all, the dress still looks perfect and relaxed when paired with a simple veil.

A delicate, pastel, wrap-around dress with short sleeves and an ankle hem also creates an impressive impression. Add some pretty slip-on sandals and a small flower arrangement in the hair for a simple country girl effect. A small veil can be used for the hair, though plain flowers or a decorated barrette looks more appropriate.

Speaking of country girl, almost any cut of sun-dress works wonderfully as a casual wedding gown. A simple dress, or a slip dress with a sheer, flower patterned over-dress can add that needed flow to the outfit. Look for a sun-dress with a single, soft ruffle on the hem or a sexy sash tied waist for extra flare. A beautiful flower decoration should definitely be used for the hair with this garment.

A lightly patterned dress can look lavish too. An asymmetrical skirt with dainty trimming can be both casual and lovely, especially with a sweetheart neckline and matching trimming on the bodice. Best of all, this style can be worn with a soft veil, delicate hat, ribbons, barrettes, or flowers. Use a pair of ankle-tie or slip on heeled sandals to bring everything together.
