Unforgettable weddings

My sister’s wedding, but there was nothing really different about it compared to my teacher’s wedding. However, I’ll never forget the excitement of having to get ready for it (I was a bridesmaid), the beautiful tulips she carried in honor of my Dutch grandmother, or the gorgeous cake. The cake was modeled after one she saw in Europe. It was three tiered and had wide gold ribbons on each layer. She saved the cake stand and later used it to put fancy cupcakes on for my niece’s 1st birthday party. My sister wore the bottom half of Mom’s handmade wedding dress, and a new bodice. I had my hair put up at the hairdressers and there were cute little sparkle clips in it. Unfortunately, I did have to get bangs, though, so I would match my sister. They looked ok for a while but then I grew them out partway, which looked stupid, and then finally decided to really grow them out.
When I was a kid, I was in 3 weddings. At five, I was a flower girl in my aunt’s wedding. It was winter, and she wore a white dress trimmed with fake white fur, and a hood trimmed with fur instead of a veil. The flower girls wore sky blue, fur trimmed dresses and had baskets, with flowers and flowers in the back ponytails in our hair. At age 11, I was a junior bridesmaid in another aunt’s wedding. My sister and I wore peach dresses, circlets with peach flowers on them, and silver bracelets with our initial on them. We also wore some pearls. The pearls were probably inexpensive, but they looked nice and I liked them. In both of these weddings, we had our pictures taken with the bride. The other wedding I was in was my uncle’s. I and a niece of the bride made sure everybody signed the guestbook.
My teacher was very well liked in our Christian school, and she decided it would be fun to invite everyone in the school (50 kids plus their parents) to her wedding. That was remarkable in and of itself, but she decided HER wedding was going to be so much fun we’d never forget it. The ceremony itself was beautiful, with original, heartfelt vows the bride and groom wrote to each other. Then there was the reception. Lots of great food, a funny skit about how the bride and groom first met (made even funnier by the fact that the one playing the bride was 7 months pregnant with her 4th child!), a game of musical chairs where you popped the balloons by sitting on them, and songs. My dad taped the whole thing on video for them. He used the first few minutes to tape his kids playing in the backyard, because we didn’t have our own videocamera yet. So, he saved our family of the whole thing, then sent it as is to the happy couple.
