Testimonies: My most memorable Fourth of July

The Fourth of July was finally here, I was so excited and nervous at the same time. Every Fourth of July in our family consists of family and friends gathering to pop fireworks and to eat as much food as we could possibly handle, laughing and catching up with all those we love but, don’t see as often as we should. This day was not like any of the other Fourth of July days, it was my wedding day! My husband and I met for the first time on the Fourth of July, so when we got engaged, we chose that day for our wedding day. We’ve been married for 10 years now but, I remember it as if it were yesterday.

I woke up early in the morning to get myself together, my son at the time, was 7 months old. I fed him and bathed him for our special day. It was the day I would marry his father. I gave him to my mother so I could shower and change into my wedding dress. My stomach was in knots, I was afraid I wouldn’t know what to say when it was time to say my vows. My mom was there telling me not to worry. “The Justice of the Peace will tell you what to say,” she said. I got my wedding dress, so pretty and glittery, it had beads and it shimmered a little in the sun that came in through the window. After I put on my dress and heels, my sister-in-law, helped me with my updo and make-up.

It was time to go, I needed to be at the City Hall by noon time. My parents drove me and my son there and on the way she gave me a bracelet for the old, my sister-in-law gave something borrowed, which were her earrings, and I already had something new and something blue, it was my necklace. When I got there my husband was already there with his mother and a few other family members, so was the judge.

Everybody was there, the judge got started and I felt so happy. My husband and I said our vows and I didn’t make a single mistake. We exchanged our rings and kissed, it was over before I knew it. My husband’s aunt, who was visiting from Houston, took us all out to eat at an all you can eat buffet restaurant. When we finished eating my son left with my mother and my husband and I had a weekend honeymoon at the beach.

The Fourth of July is a day that I will never forget. My husband and I were the only ones to say I do that day and we have been together ever since.
