Testimonies: My dream wedding – Part 3

As a baker who specializes in wedding cakes, I have had the pleasure of delivering these beautiful confections to countless people’s dream weddings. All this inspiration has given me room for thought about what my own dream wedding would be like. The location, the music, the flowers, the cake, and the perfect groom – almost every little girl dreams about what her big day will be like.

I suppose the dream wedding begins at the moment you receive your dream engagement ring. Every woman has different taste in jewelry. For me, white gold and platinum are preferable and I like emerald- and princess-cut diamonds. I love three-stone rings because of their symbolism as reflecting the past, present, and future. Although, I also have somewhat nontraditional taste in that I love rings with other colored stones accenting the diamond. It’s not about the size or the cost, but about something that matches my style so that I am excited to wear it every day.

If I close my eyes, I can see myself in a beautiful Cinderella-esque ball gown. It would have a corset-style top and beautiful, full skirt. I am not sure how I feel about veils, but if I were to wear one to my dream wedding it wouldn’t be particularly long. With simple jewelry and updo pulled back, this is one area where I am the most traditional.

Living in northern California, the Napa Valley and other vineyards are close at hand. There are so many beautiful places, surrounded by natural wonders. I would love to have a celebration as important as a wedding in one of these picturesque locations. Many of the vineyards offer the chance to have both the wedding and reception in the same location, which I prefer.

The food would probably be buffet-style, simple for the ease of catering to the taste of my diverse family. While I like sit-down dinners at weddings, I prefer something more casual. I want my guests to mingle and chat and enjoy plenty of great food. The most important thing is that everyone has a ton of fun!

Of course I have strong ideas about what my dream wedding cake would be like. I can’t seem to stay consistent about what flavors I would choose (right now, half the tiers would be mango and lime mousses with a chiffon cake and the other half would be genoise soaked in raspberry puree with a vanilla bean filling). However I know what it would look like. Instead of traditional round cakes, my five tiers would be shaped like hexagons and finished with buttercream. It will have sparkling gum paste drapes flowing down every other corner, deep blue ribbon at the bottom of each tier, and beautiful blue and white flowers. After spending so much time around cake, of course I have such a detailed image of what mine would look like.

Although all of these things would make the actually wedding ceremony a dream, what is the most important is finding a partner who would make it a dream marriage. Meeting a man who is kind, ambitious, funny, and most of all honest would make it the perfect day. A wedding is just a day, but finding that person who understands you and can move through life with you is a precious gift.

Perhaps I will end up with a different dress or flowers than what I picture, but that doesn’t really matter. As long as I find my perfect partner one day, my wedding will be a dream.
