Testimonies: My dream wedding – Part 1

Hair trial # 1 back view

When I was a little girl, I dreamt of a big, lavish wedding with a big poofy dress, tons of guests, zillions of flowers, and an expensive honeymoon.

When I got married last year at twenty three, I realized that my dreams of the “perfect wedding” had changed. That’s not to say I didn’t have the wedding of my dreams, I did. Let me elaborate.

First of all, I realize now that the biggest part of your wedding is: who you are marrying. I married the man of my dreams, which in itself makes your big day magical. You could get married by the Justice of the Peace but as long as you are marrying the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, you should feel as though you accomplished your “dream” wedding.

Ironically, you never think of that as a little girl- all you’re thinking about is the dress, flowers, cake, and other “extras” that make the EVENT, not necessarily the WEDDING.

But my wedding WAS a dream come true and not just because of my new husband.

Unlike when I was a little girl dreaming of a huge “no budget” wedding, my wedding had to be budget friendly and I realized a lot about myself and what truly makes me happy in the process of planning.

I first decided that I didn’t want the traditional wedding type stuff. Scratch the big poofy dress, the countless guests, and the elaborate honeymoon. I wanted the day to be REAL and meaningful and be filled with love and honor and things that make me smile.

I wanted the attire to be casual and cool (we got married June 1, 2007) so the groom and groomsmen wore beige suits, no vests, and all my bridesmaids got to pick their own shoes (gasp!). My dress was simple and elegant, in fact, it was almost old-fashioned: white, strapless, empire waist, lace overlay, with delicate beading all over the lace. My shoes were barely there flat sandals (I opted for comfort) and my updo was swept up in a low bun with a simple veil attached with daisies. Our guests (which were a mere 90 people) wore slacks or even shorts with collared shirts and sundresses.

My flowers were streamlined and low cost- I chose daisies (my favorite flower). This allowed me to really deck out my location in my flower- I had centerpieces on EVERY table, even the gift table, flowers on my cake, in my bridesmaids’ and my hair, GORGEOUS balls of daisies hanging from the eaves over the dance floor, and garland around the ceremony gazebo. Flowers were everywhere, which is what I wanted, but I didn’t have to break
