Testimonies: I want the fairy – Part 6
Slipping back in time and space to the memories of innocent childhood dreams, I can always remember my sister dreaming of being Cinderella. She would dance and prance around the house all dressed up with nowhere to go. Nowhere in reality, but in her mind she wandered to the place where her Prince Charming dwelled. From the earliest moments of her childhood she dreamed of the day, she would wear the white puffy wedding dress, walk down the aisle with her train trailing a mile behind her and marry her Prince.
Time changes a lot of things, people grow up and realize that maybe Prince Charming doesn’t exist. Not for my sister she still dreams and waits. She lives her life, works at her job, waits to be swept off of her feet, and dreams of her wedding day.
We talked not long ago about her dream wedding and how she envisioned it in her mind. Out came the bridal books, magazines and websites full of exotic and unique wedding ideas. Quickly she brushed past them searching and looking for the perfect white dress to show me. Maybe not quite as puffy as when she was a teenager but still a fairytale dress. We looked at pictures of wedding cakes that reached for the sky, bridesmaid dresses, flower girl baskets, ring bearer pillows and fresh flower bouquets.
I got a phone call one day not long after our talk of weddings and she was so excited she had found her dress. She wondered if she should buy it not knowing when her special day would come. I told her to go ahead and get it, it was her dream dress. So she bought the dress and we went shopping for a lovely tiara to go with it. Later that night she put everything on, and twirled around her living room. She was exactly like I had envisioned, she was Cinderella!
I know she stays home some nights and practices doing her updo and makeup, dreaming of a church wedding, full of family, friends, flowers, love and dancing the night away with her Prince Charming.
I love to listen to her dream it makes me feel like a little girl again. Exotic, unique, creative and different weddings may be for some people, but for my sister she will always be Cinderella waiting for her fairy tale wedding.
