Testimonies: I want the fairy – Part 5
Here I sit dreaming of our fairy tale wedding; I clearly see myself in that elegant lacey satin white dress with puffy shoulders and sheer silk sleeves. My diamond engagement ring is centered by aquamarine birthstones. The veil’s headpiece has live lavender and white roses trimmed with baby’s breath and flows into a long white gauze train with tiny sparkles. I’m wearing my grandmother’s white pearls (old), satin comfy white slippers (borrowed), a cornflower blue handkerchief is tucked away and my dress and veil are new. My bouquet echoes my headpiece and is a large spray of lavender and white roses, baby’s breath and lilly of the valley, trimmed with a white satin bow with trailing tails of white silk. My makeup and manicure are perfect and my updo is pulled back with soft curls grazing my shoulders; I have never felt this beautiful!
Supposedly it’s bad luck to see the groom before the “I do’s”, but I steel a glance of his mirrored reflection glimmering in his black tux with a lavender cummerbund and a white silk shirt sporting gold and onyx cufflinks. His jet black updo is combed back from his face in a way that highlights his deep blue eyes. This prince was soon to be mine!

We planned this day for a year hoping and praying every detail of our hard work and hard earned money would pay off. Every member of both of our families have been invited; also friends and colleagues. The round tables are draped in white linen tablecloths embroidered at the scalloped edges with crocheted lace. The centerpieces are a single lavender rose in light pink porcelain bud vases. The reception was in the rectory of the charming old New England stone church where I grew up attending. When I was a little girl I prayed and dreamed of this day. Our two nieces aged three and five were little princess flower girls shyly scattering white and lavender rose petals from white wicker baskets. His best man and my maid of honor are our best friends. My beloved son (from a previous marriage), Dylan, proudly walked me down the aisle. Also included in the wedding party and dressed in white and lavender were three more couples with whom we have close relationships. After we were married and walking out of the church everyone was beaming love our way as the melodic bells chimed.
During dinner we heard soft new age “Enya type” music. Our wedding feast consisted of: fillet mignon with mushrooms or lemon pepper grilled salmon, fresh crab and shrimp, with asparagus, honey glazed carrots, artichokes and fresh endive and avocado salad. The wedding cake was a truly unforgettable five tier confection decorated with fresh raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, cherries and kiwi, frosted with light whipped cream; inside was homemade sponge cake filled with layers of sweetened raspberries and topped by an old fashioned bride and groom in a horse and carriage. We toasted crystal flutes filled with sparking mineral water of different flavors in favor of alcohol.
We flew to Venice, Italy, where we strolled through ancient castles, viewed historical art and architecture and rode in gondolas. On arrival at our hotel suite candles were lit and bouquets of colorful flowers filled the room. We enjoyed a romantic honeymoon beyond our wildest dreams! I vividly recall the memories in detail every time I open my cherished photo album; I hope I have been able to give the reader those photographs in words.
