Perfect colors for an August wedding – Part 1
I remember trying to choose the color scheme for my wedding. I desperately wanted one color scheme and my future groom would do nothing but frown and shake his head. My mother, though she loved the ideas I had, pointed out that the burgundy and pale pink dresses I wanted for my bridesmaids would definitely clash with the red carpet in the sanctuary of our church. I ended up with a color scheme that my soon-to-be-husband could live with and that didn’t clash with the carpet in the church. I have not, however, ever forgotten the vision of the wedding that I DIDN’T have.
While many wedding planners report that the most popular colors in 2008 for a late summer wedding are orange, brown, hunter green, gold and burgundy; Pantone is suggesting the use of rich, elegant colors as summer begins to slide into fall – deep blues, greens and purples; as well as the warm oranges, reds and yellows that many associate with summer’s heat. This range of colors allows the bride to choose from either the warm, rich gold’s and oranges to the cooling shades of indigo or emerald. Each of these colors reflects light in a different way and projects a different “energy” or mood. Red brings to mind passion and love; pink suggests romance, while green has always been associated with fertility and prosperity. Think about these when you’re thinking about the colors and theme of your wedding.

Shayna Walker, of Williamsburg Wedding Design, states “Deep red is perfectly appropriate in the summer (for weddings).” She goes on to suggest deep red, almost black roses. Red and black could provide a formal, very elegant background for your wedding, and your groom and his friends probably won’t have a problem wearing a black tux. Red and black also seem flatter most skin tones and hair colors (well, except for the occasional red-head) and that will keep your bridesmaids happy, as well.
One of Martha Stewart’s favorite combinations for a late summer wedding this year is a combination of taupe and fuchsia. Let the men wear taupe, with fuschia boutonnieres to coordinate with the women’s beautiful fuschia or floral gowns.
Next to the groom, many brides feel that the color scheme for their wedding is not only the most important decision they’ll make, but the most stressful. Remember, though, when it come to choosing the color scheme for your very special day, go with your heart.
