Most embarrassing clothing disasters youve experienced or observed
Me and my finance decided we were going to have a Renaissance wedding, outside, in October. We loved the idea. We were the only ones who did, but I trucked on. I had not the faintest clue of what I was doing, and insisted on doing everything myself. It ended up with me looking quite foolish. That’s call Karma.
The day of the wedding comes. I have no idea how to put on make up, I don’t wear any. I had decided to wear my updo down, as was custom for a bride in the Renaissance times. I had ordered this flower wreath thing for my head all in little daisies and roses. I had a long white cape, little white slippers and was so happy I couldn’t stop smiling.
Did I mention we had decided to have our wedding outside, in October. And tent, we don’t need no stinking tent! It was sprinkling and 45 degrees. My morning had been spent talking on the phone with my guests. They were wondering if we were going to come to our senses and have our wedding inside somewhere. "No! I happily replied. This is what we want."
During the wedding it was raining so hard my dad had to hold me up while walking down the "aisle" (dirt walkway in a garden) so I wouldn’t slip in the mud. My updo was soaked and stringy. My sister, my matron of honor kept pining my veil back in while I said my vows, (thanks Ivy). The bottom of my white cape was black with mud, as were my little white shoes. My head wreath, that was so pretty in the box, had died by the time the reception was over.
There is not one picture of me without my shoulder straps hanging down like I am starting to undress. All the stitching in my dress was funky looking and stared to come undone. That is what happens when you get your dress made by someone who has only recently taking up dress making. My dress was ankle length, instead of floor length and looked so silly in a Renaissance type of dress. (I was thankful at the time due to the mud.) My matron of honor looked 100 times better than me. Not that I blame her, she would have had to try pretty hard to look as silly as I did!
My husband and I had a good time. We didn’t mind being wet and cold, we were together. My husband still insist the affair was a roaring success. To him I looked beautiful. He hates make up and loves the outdoors; dead flowers, mud, rain and all.
