Memoirs: My wedding – Part 2

It was the reality of every fantasy that I could have imagined- and more.

Codey and I had been together for four years before we had finally decided to get married. We were high school sweethearts. Lovers right from the start.

We had our fair share of ups and downs in our relationship. There was a point in time when I wasn’t even sure if he was going to propose to me, and yet he did it so perfectly. He had caught me in a moment when I was at my absolute worst. Wearing clothing that made me feel grungy, looking like I hadn’t showered in days, and yet he looked at me as if I was the most beautiful woman in the world and asked me to be his wife.

It was a short engagement. It was something that we had discussed in the past and we had both agreed on what we had wanted for our wedding.

I had asked my mother to make my wedding dress. She was honoured and I knew that she would make it look beautiful. It was knee length, strapless, and white with a lace layer over-top. She had used blue ribbon to accent my figure and add some colour into the beautiful dress. I loved it. She had also made me a beautiful updo clip to use on the day of the wedding.

I had decided to do my updo and make up myself. They were things that I enjoyed and we wanted to keep our wedding simple.

We had decided to have a private wedding on the beach, near a beautiful waterfall. Codey was standing by the waterfall and I slowly walked toward him, beautiful flowers in my hand, water splashing in the background. I looked at him as if I were never going to blink and then we began.

It was beautiful and just so natural. We had decided to remain barefoot and feel the sand sink beneathe our feet. We had decided not to force ourselves to look more glamourous because our love could see beyond the make up of a wedding day.

We each shared the vows that we had earlier wrote for each other and then officially combined our lives in such a beautiful part of the world.

We had honey-mooned in a local cabin, slow dancing beneath the stars to Peter Frampton singing “Baby I love your way” and each whispering softly to the other “I do, I really do.”

With a romantic home-cooked meal and delicious dessert followed by a steaming shower we were closing in on the most beautiful and loving day of our lives together.

And that evening, as husband and wife, we lay down next to each other slowly listening to each other’s heart beat loudly as if to hear nothing but each other.

It was on that beautiful day that I re learnt the meaning of love and he keeps re-teaching me everyday of our marriage.
