Ideas for wedding favors

A wedding is not complete without favors, those little gifts distributed to bridesmaids, groomsmen and guests. If you are choosing favors for Celtic themed wedding, there is a rich selection to choose from, and it needn’t be expensive. Here are some ideas, from the cheap and cheerful, to enchanting keepsakes that will be cherished for decades to come.

One of the most authentic favors is a love spoon. These were originally carved out of wood by the groom to be presented to the bride. Today you can find them embellished with Celtic motifs, handcrafted from natural woods in Wales or Scotland. Tied with a ribbon, they make beautiful bridesmaids’ gifts.

The Claddagh, that eternal symbol of love from Ireland, i usually presented as a rig, but these days the Claddagh can be presented in many ways. Bridesmaids will love a Claddagh brooch or hair comb, while groomsmen can be presented with Claddagh cuff links, tie pins or bottle openers.

Claddagh favors for the guests can include photo frames, candles, lapel pins, key rings, scarves or embroidered linen.

For the youngest guests, little bags of sweet candy and chocolate favors, shaped like Claddaghs and love knots, will be well received.

Fine Irish linen is a perfect gift. Handkerchiefs can be presented to men and women, and for that extra touch for the bridesmaid and groomsmen, they can be embroidered with monograms or Celtic designs.

Irish linen traycloths and napkins also make thoughtful little gifts to thank members of the bridal party for their support.

Other favors that will be sure to please are bookmarks with Celtic motifs, whiskey glasses, and little silver Claddagh bells for the home.

Fun is always a large part of a Celtic celebration, and favors with a sense of humor will be sure to find their way to the reception.

How about placing an Irish fortune cookie by each plate? These are usually available around St Patrick’s Day, but can be purchased any time of the year through the Internet. Each is individually wrapped, with a humorous saying inside. You can even get fortune cookies dyed bright green, which is certain to cause hilarity.

Tea towels printed with funny poems like A Mother’s Letter and Murphy’s Law make fun favors, and are especially welcome if they are used to wrap individual loaves of fresh soda bread.

A Celtic wedding theme allows you to think outside the box when it comes to favors. Why not present each guest with a little book of Celtic art, or a scroll illuminated in the Celtic style commemorating their attendance at your wedding?

For the children, a tin whistle and instructions to play it, would be a memorable gift, although parents may prefer you offered something quieter, like a tartan scarf or length of tartan ribbon.

Another lovely idea is to presents the guests with heather or shamrock seeds in clay pots. Heather is tricky to grow, but instructions will be included with the seeds.

Gourmet food items can be delightful favors. Boxes of strong Irish tea, tins of Scottish shortbread, or little pots of Scots whiskey marmalade will be carried off with pleasure.

With a little thought, and a quick search of the web, you can delight your guests with favors truly designed to please.
