How to find the perfect petite wedding dress

My wedding hair and makeup

My daughter was planning to getting married, all excited about the new life and becoming part of a new family. She was engaged to a German , she had met while working abroad , and initially they planned on a church wedding in his place in Germany, but , my daughter was very keen that she should also have a traditional Hindu wedding. She has always been fascinated by the intricacies of a Hindu wedding, though she lived most of her life abroad. Her Fiance was totally sold on the idea of hving a Traditional wedding here in India.

So we did organise a traditional Hindu wedding, which lasted for 2 days with the initial ‘Mehendi’ which is a must in most Indian weddings, where the bride and the groom’s hands are covered with the ground Mehendi leaves in different patterns for a few hours. This leaves a reddish stain on the hands , that lasts for a month or more .And the Wedding which followed the next morning was organised as she wanted , with all the customs and rituals that go into it .My daughter at five feet and four inches is petite and wanted to wear a Saree for the wedding.Initially we decided that she could try out the Ghagra Choli, which comes with rich embroidery and is easier to manage than the saree. But , she was keen on a Saree and wanted to wear the Ghagra for the reception while wearing an Ethnic Indian Silk saree heavy with Zari work for the Wedding.

I must say that she made an absolutely stunning bride in her heavy Red and Gold saree and looked like a princess with all the jewellery and loads of flowers in her hair. Her hair was plaited and the jasmine flower garland were twined round her plait and roses and other flowers placed in between .

Most people had this wrong notion that a petite bride cannot wear a heavy Gold Saree, as the yards of silk overlaps her.But i feel that it is not true.Saree, as a traditional dress suits everyone and enhances one’s look like no other.Later for the Wedding rception, she was in a Heavily embroidered Ghagra ,Choli- a two piece dress set with a heavy shawl which is worn across one’s shoulder. This was again considered a dress meant fior those who are tall and big built.I must say that i loved the way, this dress fitted my daughter and showed her to her best advantage. It was in a shade of Pink with lots of silver embroidery , with flashes of a pale Green and a darker shade of Pink embroidery. The whole effect with her hair put up in a french knot was stunning. She is not too keen on Jewellery and so wore the bare minimum of Jewelery for her Reception.

The Guests who came from Germany were in high praise and some of them wanted to take back Sarees and Ghagra Cholis, which they could use there for their formal functions. It was a lovely wedding, and the memory of it is sure to make her happy for years together.

I think one can make a petite bride look her best by balancing out the dress with the right amount of Jewellery and other accessories..
