Getting married abroad recommended
I am getting married abroad in July this year so I guess that I will have to get back to you!
At first it seemed so romantic to have a wedding in the south of England during the height of Summer. I was thinking of Primroses, Petticoats and spring lambs – you know picture book kind of stuff.
My mother-in-law-to-be is over the moon as she is English and we will be having the wedding in the church and then the reception at her Father’s cottage which is over 500 years old (I am from Australia so buildings that old fascinate me). My father-in-law-to-be was not so happy as he is greek and his family all live here and he also doesn’t like spending money so the thought of buying airline tickets lost him some hair.

My parents were chuffed. After two sons dying in the space of four years (2002 and 2006) and not having had a break from their familiar surronds this wedding is a great thing.
My grandfather-in-law-to-be who is well into his eighties started organising everything right away. The church was booked, the catering was organised, the flowers were organised, accomodation was booked, he is so organised.
Last week we received a letter from “Grandpa” and it went on to talk about the catering and the drinks…. cucumber sandwiches, eclairs, cups of tea and champagne! WHAT was my reaction. Food is one of my passions so at my wedding the food would have to be one of the highlights!
My fiancee was on the phone right away to his Grandfather explaining that we are from the “ultramodern nuskool” (note my spelling – very modern) and he is from the “old old school” (note my spelling) and we just don’t have that kind of food at weddings.
Anyway I am having great difficulty finding a caterer in that part of the World who is up to my standards. It all seems like really oldfashioned English stodge food (I think I am spoilt for food living in Sydney).
We have decided to make a trip down to France to purchase the wine and champagne as champagne and cups of tea just would not suffice. The trip to France does add a little more romance to the occassion.
I will have to source beer from somewhere else as the French are not known for their beer and it might be too expensive in the UK. Maybe a trip to Germany.
There is so much to organise still but there is only so much that can be done from the other side of the World!
My final answer might just be if you are wanting to get married overseas make sure you elope. I will let you know after July – that is if I make it as I am currently living with my in-laws to save money before heading overseas!
