On your wedding day, you want everything to be flawless, and your hair is your crowning glory. Like everything else on your to-do list, great hair requires preparation.

When selecting your wedding style, opt for a timeless, natural look rather than dramatic or trendy. When you look back at your bridal pictures, you want to look like yourself. Don’t overdo it, more isn’t always better.

Before going to the stylist, look through hair and bridal books. Bring multiple photographs to your stylist to show her the look you like. Try to find some variation in the styles so if one won’t work with your texture of length, you can try something else.

Also consider your dress when choosing a hairstyle. Hall said simple dresses look better with more elaborate hair, while elaborate dresses paired with heavily-styled hair can look heavy and overdone.

These days, more is less when it comes to bridal hair. Hair should also be soft and natural for a classy, timeless look. Most brides are opting for big curls, nothing stiff or tight, and more girls want their hair down than up. Bridal hair is a lot simpler than it used to. Unless you’re having a very formal wedding, it’s best to keep it soft, simple and romantic. If you do a lot to your hair it can be overwhelming.

While looking at hairstyle options, consider your dress, and your hairpiece or veil. Plus, if you plan on changing your hair or removing your veil for the reception, make sure your stylist knows that as well so they can make it easy to modify the style without messing it up.

You don’t want any surprises on your wedding day, especially when it comes to your appearance, so it’s important to schedule a consulting appointment and trial run with your stylist.

When you achieve a style you like at the trial run, ask your stylist to take pictures of the practice runs so you can see the style from all angles, and so your stylist will know exactly what to duplicate on your wedding day.

Even before selecting a style, plan for gorgeous, healthy hair. In the months leading up to the wedding, give you’re a little extra attention. The result is healthy, shiny hair for your walk down the aisle.

Talk to your hairdresser about your vision for your hair so she can start cutting it for the wedding style you want. Even if you want to grow your hair out for the event, it’s important to keep getting regular trims so your hair isn’t damaged at the end or stringy.

Once a week, do a deep conditioning treatment to keep your hair moisturized and healthy.

And finally, a wedding day tip for great hair. Before your hair appointment, skip the shampoo. Surprisingly, hair does better if it’s a little bit dirty. Shampoo the day before, but on the day of the event, go with dirty hair.
