How to choose bridal jewelry for the big day
Wednesday, December 8th, 2010Your bridal jewelry should compliment your dress, not draw attention away from it, so go for understated glamour, and remember the overly used but very true saying “less really is more”.
Before you consider jewelry, choose your dress and decide how you’ll wear your hair. The neckline of your dress will dictate the length and size of necklace, and you need to consider how your hair-style will cover earings. Long updo left loose will also cover a large section of a necklace, and can become entangled in some types of necklace chain.
How fussy is the detail on your dress? A plainer dress will allow for interesting jewelry, that would be too much with a very detailed dress.
You don’t have to spend lots of money or go for traditional wedding jewelry. Wear something that you find beautiful, that suits your personality.
You may want to wear coloured jewelry. Maybe you have chosen a coloured dress, or you want to co-ordinate with your colour scheme, or your groom’s shirt or tie.
Consider the different types of jewelry. As well as necklace and earings, a bride can choose a tiara, updo jewels and bracelet. Beware that rings could make your hands look cluttered when all eyes are on the wedding ring. An exception to this would be wearing a ring with significance, for example a family heirloom.
Remember that one piece of jewelry can easily look more striking than a whole collection, so don’t feel that you must have one of everything.
When you have chosen your jewelry, try it all on with the dress, with your updo pulled into the right shape. Any doubts, change the jewelry. If it doesn’t completely work, don’t wear it.
