Testimonies: Outdoor wedding horror stories – Part 1
Friday, December 3rd, 2010It was a beautiful sunny day and perfect for a California wedding on a cliff overlooking the ocean. There were pine tree’s providing the perfect scent and the guest were arriving to witness the wonderful event. The bride was in the back of her dads nearby camper getting ready. The groom was no where to be found. Wait… Where was the groom?
He got lost on the way to his own wedding. Not being too familiar with the area and having a big hangover from the night before partying with the brides brother he was late by about half an hour. Not a lot of time, but enough to make the bride see red! When he made it he was so nervous he threw up in nearby bushes while all the guest listened in.
Finally everyone was standing around and the groom was with the preacher and best man. Again the brides brother. Now the bride had to calm down first because she was still mad at her groom and her brother, finally she was ready to make an appearance.

However an hour had passed by this time and everyone was starting to notice the wind getting stronger and stronger. A California ocean cliff may be romantic but it can also blow like a hurricane. As the bride came out of the camper she fell over from the wind catching her dress like a parachute. With the help of her father and uncle (my dad) she moved forward to stand next to her groom.
The wedding began but we couldn’t hear a word being said because of the romantic crashing of the waves and the velocity of the wind as it increased moment by moment. All of a sudden the bride screamed as a gust of wind blew her towards her doom over the cliff. The groom, preacher, her dad and my dad caught her just as she was going off the edge. Shaking but still there she continued with her wedding. As she finished and they had their first kiss as a married couple a gust of wind picked up a wonderful batch of sand and blew into everyone’s eyes, updo and mouth. This was just too romantic.
We knew the wedding must be ready to move on to the reception hall as we saw the couple leave for their car so holding tight to each other in an effort not to go over the cliff into the ocean below we made our way from the most beautiful sight in the world for a wedding.
It should have been a warning for the couple. They divorced a few years later because of the stormy relationship that started on a cliff overlooking the wildest part of California’s beautiful coastline!
