Bridesmaid dress ideas for a winter wedding
Ah, a winter wedding. I remember it well, the beauteous lights wrapped in translucent cloth, the Christmas tree in the corner, draped with heirloom ornaments and Walmart finds. Most of all I remember the looks of joy and love on the faces of my family and friends as I walked down the aisle behind my elegantly, yet simply, clad bridesmaids. For my wedding I chose a Celtic type theme for the dresses, something warm and pretty at the same time. With a bodice and bell sleeves, my bridesmaids both looked lovely in colors chosen for their earthy tones as well as the way they would look on my dear friends. The fiery red head wore a deep green, while my dark haired maid of honor was resplendent in her burgundy gown. Though both of their dresses, as well as my own Celtic gown, were made by my mother, they looked as though we had stepped from a magazine. The different colors of their dresses was often remarked upon during the time leading to the wedding, but when they walked down the aisle before me, all of the lights twinkling and the Carol of the Bells playing softly in the background, no one could say anything contentious about the coloring or design of the dresses. Even the most staunch dis-approvers later told me that they had been wrong to lie upon tradition in that instance. My decision had been the right one for my wedding.
So, my advice to anyone looking for bridesmaids dresses, no matter what the season, is two-fold. First, look at your bridesmaids and your ‘theme’, marry the two with the thought of season in mind, so that each bridesmaid has a dress that she is happy to remember and that is neither too hot, nor too cold. Secondly, do not follow anyone else’s advice. While this might seem strange, it is your wedding and if you want purple tulle and big bows, then go for it. But if you want something different, that is OK too. What is important is that you won’t look back on your wedding day and wish that you had allowed your best friend the simple evening gown in appropriate coloring instead of the hot pink ball gown that she kept tripping over. Have fun, this is a day of joy for all!
