Bridesmaid dress ideas for a casual wedding – Part 1
There are several things to consider when choosing the bridesmaids dresses for your wedding.
THE AGE OF THE BRIDESMAIDS
Toddlers and little girls have a totally different shape to older girls or teenagers. This needs to be taken into consideration when choosing the style of dress for your bridesmaids. What will look good on a tall willowy eighteen year old won’t look the same on a wriggly, plump four year old.
YOUR DRESS
A bridesmaids dress should compliment, but not upstage the outfit that you are wearing. It will need to match in color or style, but should be less fabulous!
COST
Whether you or the bridesmaid herself is paying for the dress, cost will need to be taken into consideration. If it is a casual wedding, you might be asking girls to wear their own clothes, so they will want to choose something that they will be happy wearing afterwards.
The style of the dresses chosen will depend to a large extent on exactly how casual your wedding is. A dress code of smart-casual is the norm for weddings, as everyone wants to look their best to show respect for the bride and groom, and of course everyone wants to look good in the photos!
If your wedding is going to have all or some of the ceremony/reception outdoors, then that will impact on your choices as well.
SUNDRESSES
Sundresses are a great alternative for a summer wedding. They can be dressed up with jewelry, strappy shoes and light jackets for a more formal look, but these things can be discarded at a less formal reception event, such as a barbecue or beach party.
Dresses could be made up in different colors of the same print, or in shades of the same color to match your flowers.
JEANS
If you want a very casual wedding, jeans can be the theme of the bridesmaids. If they all wear the same, they all match, and they can choose different tops. This would be great for a flower-power wedding, with flowers in their hair and thong sandals.
WHITE SHIFT DRESSES
White shift dresses are an alternative for tiny girls. These can be tied at the waist with different colored wide ribbon in pastel shades for a more traditional look, or tied with a scarf for more contemporary style.
SHORT SKIRTS
Flirty little skirts are popular at the moment, and suit all ages of bridesmaid. Little skirts in the color of your flowers, with strappy tops would look fabulous. The high heels can be discarded at the party for when they want to romp about.
