Blushing bride: How to accentuate your best features for your special day – Part 2

Every woman wants to be at her most beautiful on her wedding day, as is her right. After all, she’s probably spent the last several months planning the event that many of her guests will have more time to enjoy than she herself will, as she’ll be running around greeting everyonewhy shouldn’t she at least get to look stunning while doing so? Fortunately, with a little planning and the help of a few experts, the bride can look her best, and be sure to take away her groom’s breath when he sees her (as is also her right).
1) Scope bridal magazines: These magazines are a font of information about several different things: the best dress types for different body types; makeup styles for brides depending on skin tone, time of day of the wedding, the season and style of the event; hairstyles for different lengths, seasons, hair colors, dressesetc. If you don’t already have ideas, look here for them.
2) Be realistic: Along with scoping these mags comes being realistic: not every style looks good on everyone. No matter how beautiful Julia Roberts or Jennifer Lopez looked as the many different incantations of movie brides they’ve played, wellnot everyone is Julia Roberts or Jennifer Lopez. If you try out a style that you’ve had your heart set on and you just aren’t feeling it, trust your instincts.
3) Consult the professionals: Many brides opt to have their hair and makeup done by professionals as opposed to doing it themselves or having friends do it, which is a worthy investment (unless, of course, you have a skilled, professional beautician in the family). These people will also offer a pre-wedding consult: a time to meet and discuss styles, as well as practice what will be done to see if it will actually look good. Be sure to trust your stylists and their experience and expertise, but be assertive enough to voice up if you are uncomfortable with anything they are doing. If they show these tendencies during the practice session, it might be wise to seek another professional, if you just can’t get through to them that they are delivering their vision, and not your own.
a.I recently attended a wedding where one of the bridesmaids didn’t have a clear idea what she wanted done to her hair, and just told the stylist, “up with curls.” An hour and a half later, (while the other stylist did three other bridesmaids and a mom) there was some bizarre creation on her head, which she promptly told him to take down and re-do. Sure, she could have been a bit more specific in the beginning, but kudos to her for speaking up about the bird’s nest he had crafted on her head.
The whole point is to be comfortable with and feel great about how you look, which will lead you to look your most beautiful, and give you that extra special glow. Know what you wantthere are plenty of resources for ideas, from magazines to people who do weddings for a living. After all, it’s your dayyou’re more than worth it.
