Beauty tips for a bride

Sporting My Wedding Hairstyle

Look back at your mother’s or grandmother’s wedding portraits and you’ll notice a pure, timeless quality. Nothing trendy, nothing wild, because they knew the secret to wedding day beauty: be yourself, be happy and enjoy the natural glow! Keep your look natural and true to your personality and the rest will follow.

Keeping natural and true to your personal style, however, does take some thought and planning, not to mention a timeline to keep you on track for the big day. Start now with a beauty regimen that includes good food and regular exercise, along with plenty of water to keep skin clear and enough rest to ward off under-eye circles and bleary mornings.

If a facial is on your list of pre-wedding pampering, schedule your appointmnet a couple of weeks ahead of the wedding so that your skin is in its best shape on the big day. Save any major beauty treatments or procedures for after the wedding and honeymoon, but do consult your dermatologist or beauty specialist for the best sunscreen and moisturizer for your skin type – and pack plenty in travel size for the honeymoon getaway. Maybe you’re considering teeth whitening to brighten those wedding day photos; if so, consult your dentist so that all appointmnets are scheduled and out of the way leaving you free and clear the last couple of weeks before the wedding.

When it comes to makeup and color, stay true to yourself and don’t choose this time to take a new turn in makeup shades. You’ll want your wedding portrait (typically taken a few weeks to two months beforehand) to reflect the way you truly look – and you’ll find that your groom will agree. Then in 25 years you won’t be gasping at blue eyeshadow or heavy eyeliner that’s less than timeless in its appeal. You will need slightly heavier makeup for photography so that your face doesn’t appear washed out, but keep your look in the same color palette that you normally wear. The same is true for hairstyles. Your future husband loves the way you look, remember? Keep your hair style simple, try an up-do if you like, but skip the perms or coloring if it’s not your normal look. And when you visit your hairdresser to discuss a style for your wedding portrait and for the big occasion, take along your headpiece and veil to make sure your hair matches your accessories and that you’ll feel comfortable as you float down the aisle. After all, the happy bride who is confident and at ease will exude that unmistakable wedding day glow!
